Chasing dynamic angel eyes are a great way to set your BMW E46 apart from the rest. These LED rings are super bright and feature a color changing mode that can be controlled with the provided remote.
Generally, these lights will turn on when the vehicle is unlocked and will stay on until switched off. You can also activate these on the go with a press of a button. They also come with a wire harness that will allow them to fade in and out with your car’s ignition cycle so they’re always on when you need them.
The first type of angel eye that was widely available used a cold cathode florescent light (CCFL) that is very similar to what you would find in a flashlight or an office building. This type of lighting runs off AC power and requires high voltage to maintain the electrical arc of light within each ring. To help with this, small inverters are needed for each ring.
More recently, a newer technology called SMD (Surface Mounted Diode) has been used to create these rings. SMD is a type of LED that is much more compact and requires much less voltage than CCFL to operate. This allows for smaller inverters which reduces the cost of these lights significantly.
